Strahan Accommodation

What would be the best accommodation in Strahan in January 2012 for approx $100 to $150 per night for 2 people for 2 nights.

Strahan is a remote place, so the accommodation is expensive, especially in January which is peak tourist season.

At the moment, you can get very good accommodation for $80, $90 or $100 a night, but in summer this will all double in price.

The places most likely to come in under your budget are the motels up the hill above the docks. You should try All In Strahan, Sharonlee Villas and Driftwood Villas first. If they're too expensive, the cheapest in town will be Discovery Holiday Parks Strahan, which is cabin-style accommodation.

And if all else fails, the motels in Queenstown are cheap and cheerful. You can even do the Wilderness Railway trip from Queenstown station instead of Strahan.

We stayed in Anchor Downs Cottages up on the hill. They are self contained and although there is no view we found them comfortable. The supermarket is just up the road.

As we took 6 hours to get across from Hobart taking in all the views along the way we arrived late afternoon before the sunset. We then walked around town and bought our cruise tickets, took a short drive and went up on the hill for views over the town and harbour.

Next day we were down to the wharf and spent the day out on the cruise. I don't think you need so much of a view in Strahan as you are on the go most of the time you are there.
