Jacaranda blooming in Melbourne (Nov)

Hi

We are travelling to Melbourne in few days time. And we are planning to self drive around melbourne city, puffing Billy, philips island and mornington penisula.

Understand that Nov is Jacaranda blooming season.

May we know where is the best place that can we catch its pictureque purple scene ? Is Royal botanic garden a good choice? Or anyplace along our itinenary?

Thanks! :)

Melbourne is not a good place for jacarandas and I don't know of anywhere that has them en masse. You'll probably find the odd one here and there in suburban gardens. Grafton in northern NSW is the town most known for jacarandas.

We do have gorgeous streets of jacarandas in suburban Adelaide - but they are very late this year due to our cool spring and I haven't seen any even started yet.

Jacarandas need a warmer frost-free climate don't they? We don't have them where I live either. They are indeed a beautiful sight.

In places with a cooler climate November is peak season for roses and I think perhaps still some rhododendrons, and there are always some kind of native plants in bloom with numbers increasing in the warmer months. As Nozzie said, flowering can vary from year to year depending on conditions. I have heard of gardens that specialise in the plants I mentioned in the Melbourne region. Do any of those appeal to you Radiance123?

Friends who live in a gorgeous jacaranda(ed) street in the eastern suburbs often have bridal parties being photographed out side their house- but as I say not right now.

They are at their best in Sydney right now & should have reasonable colour for another couple of weeks if you are headed here.

As Mac mentioned, it's rhododendron season and the National Rhododendron Gardens in Olinda will be spectacular. Certainly worth a visit if you are going to rhe Dandenongs or Puffing Billy.
