The Great Ocean Road

We are planning to make a round-trip driving from Melbourne to the Great Ocean Road between 23 - 26 Dec (4 days, 3 nights). What itinerary would you suggest? We would appreciate any tips on accommodation, car rental and sight-seeing during this period as we are from Singapore and not familiar with Australia. Thank you very much.

any kids?

I think the kids might enjoy the Myers Christmas display.

Not sure if they still have it, but they had it in dec 2004 when i was there - it was the Polar Express one.

Thank you so much for all the information, especially the links to websites. We are aware that accommodation is hard to book during the Christmas season. We will take your advice to book soon.

There are 4 of us, all adults. We prefer to stay apartments with basic cooking facilities. 3-4-star (tourist class) accommodation.

Look forward to hearing from you again. Thank you.

Thank you for your reply. There are 4 of us, all adults in our forties and twenties. We are interested in scenery and nature. Any suggestions for the must-sees along the Great Ocean Road?

Must sees: the drive itself is great, just give yourself enough time to pull over and take it in when the mood takes you.

I would definitely get out of the car to do the forest walk at Melba Gully near Lavers Hill, and to walk down into Loch Ard Gorge.

Spend an hour or 2 around Lorne. The boardwalk along the river, the lookout above the town and the waterfall just inland are all very good. A nice town for a meal or a coffee stop (or an overnight stay). Search the forums & I'm sure you will find lots more useful tips.
