My husband and I will be visiting Melbourne arriving from the UK on the morning of 16th January 2012. I expect that we will arrive in Melbourne CBD about 9.30am to 10.am We will drop luggage at hotel (not expecting to be able to check in) but you never know might get lucky! We will have flown from the UK without a stopover therefore I have tried to think of activities for the 1st day which will help keep us awake for as long as possible!
16th January – Grab some breakfast, buy prepaid sim cards for our mobiles from a Telstra Store, do a loop on the free City Circle Tram, Explore the laneways. Then hopefully check into hotel and freshen up. Have lunch then afterwards go up the Eureka Skydeck tower. Then go back to hotel, relax and have an early night.
17th January - We are booked on the lunchtime service of the Colonial Tramcar restaurant at 1pm. What is the dress code for the lunchtime service? Will my husband be ok in shorts, t-shirt and trainers? What activity could we do in the morning?
I wanted to go on a guided walk of Melbourne but all the tours seem to start at 10.30 and last for 2.5 hours finishing at 1pm, when our lunch on the tramcar starts. Does anyone know any walking tours that start any earlier or shorter? After the tramcar lunch was going to take a tram out to St Kilda Beach.
18th January - Day at Australian Open and in the evening visit the Queen Victoria Night Market.
19th January – In the morning visit East Doncaster to see Doncaster Rovers soccer stadium (Husband supports Doncaster Rovers in England). In the afternoon take a ferry trip on the river to Williamstown.
Does this sound like a manageable itinerary?
Any help to fill the Tuesday morning gap would be appreciated. Thanks Gemma
