Travel during June period

Hi

I'm planning a trip to mel this June. I understand that there is a public holiday on 11 Jun 12. Is it advisable to come after the public holiday or can i come from 09 Jun 12 onwards? Thks

It's a long weekend for the Queen's Birthday.

This means a couple of things:

There will be a few more activities around as events are often planned around them. They may or may not be of interest to you.

Accommodation prices will likely be higher for the weekend. It is the opening of the Snow season so places catering to the Skiing set will be full, even if there's no snow.

If you are coming to see Melbourne's usual sights, you might be better off choosing another date. You would certainly be able to watch an AFL football game.

Unless you are coming to Melbourne for business or you want to go to a bank, you will hardly notice that it is a public holiday. All the shops, cafes and restaurants will be open as normal and so will all the tourist attractions, museums and art galleries. Public Transport will be running to the normal weekend timetables.

Many people take the opportunity to go away for a long weekend, so if anything, the city will be less crowded than on a normal weekend.

As Unclefey said, it is the traditional 'start' to the ski weekend. There's rarely any snow for the opening weekend but lots of parties.

The biggest event on in Melbourne is the Magpies vs Demons game at the MCG (you may or may not be interested in going to an Australian football match)

Early June is a lovely time to visit Melbourne - the cold of winter hasn't yet set in and we get some wonderful days with blue skies and sunshine.

So when will there be snow on the mountains for skiing? I'm heading there mid June.

There's no way to predict whether there will be snow. Most years there isn't a lot of snow mid June, but last year there was. If you just want to sightsee, you might be OK, but don't plan on skiing.

Check the snow reports closer to your travel.

Come to think of it, it's more for us to experience snow..... and

not as mentioned, skiing? Hope there will be some when we are there :-)
