southbank accom - hu and I - best place?

Hi - we are looking for accom for husband and I for 5 nights in southbank. we usually like apartments - as means my husband can stay up later at night watching tv or working in seperate room and I can sleep!! Where would you suggest is best place for location - easy access to bridge over to fed square and city, nice rooms with a nice view, very comfy beds, clean/nice amenities in room etc? Prefer king bed - but large queen ok too.

Needs to be quiet at night.

Best places? Don't mind a hotel if you know of one where my husband could watch tv/read etc with light and minimal disturbance to me sleeping...:)

Thanks muchly :)

Plenty of City Stay apartments in Southbank where the bedroom is separate to living area.

I have just checked out of Vue Grand which is 63 Whiteman St cnr Clarendon. Nice view, nice apartment. Close to everything.

Not really any such thing as quiet in Melb lol !!

I highly recommend Quay West Suites at Southbank - 5 minute walk to Fed Square. Walking distance to CBD, Casino, shops, restaurants, parks, etc. 5 min walk to train and tram stops if you want to venture further afield. Fairly new complex with all mod cons. Separate bedroom and lounge room, and suites have full kitchen and washer/drier. Most suites have a balcony with table and chairs - nice to sit and watch the world below go by. Have stayed there a number of times (in 2 bedroom suite) - staff always very pleasant and helpful. They have a bar and a restaurant, but if you want to really treat yourself, go to the Langham Hotel (almost next door) for their magnificent buffet breakfast, fabulous buffet dinner, yummy afternoon tea or decadent 'chocolate afternoon tea' - all quite expensive but sooooo nice.

Quay West Premium city view one bedroom suites - make sure you ask for the highest floor possible (I think it's the 9th floor for 1 bedroom suites) and stress you'd like a room with a good view - some suites have better views than others. Higher floor should also be very quiet - no street noise.

Just returned home today from staying at Quay West Apartments for 5 days. I have stayed at them numerous times & love the location. Close to everything & so many restaurants at your finger tips.

The only problem we had was there was heaps of construction happening & it was noisy in the mornings. We had a riverfront view apartment on the 9th floor which gave us good views. My daughter also stayed & her apartment on the 14th floor had no noise as the apartment was facing north.

I would recommend booking a apartment on the highest level due to the workers outside QW.

Thanks so much. I think quay west apartments (1 bedroom) seem pretty good for location and whats included. Quay west suites also look VERY nice - but I cannot find a decent price for one bedroom - much more expensive!!

I am a little worried re construction - we don't like noise. Is it bothersome? - we are going in november - will it still be going do you think?

What about mantra one bedroom?

Thanks

I see the Quay West Deluxe One Bedroom Suites are located on levels 10 to 15 - they probably have a different aspect and are higher than the river view suites, so may be away from construction. Check with the hotel.

Between the non stop construction going on everywhere, the trains, trams, traffic etc - if you want quiet go stay in the mountains. It's a busy inner city region and that equals noise !

There are literally thousands of apartments - in every new complex at least 50% are serviced rather than residential.

If you do a search on city stay or short stay you will find tonnes. The ones I stayed in last week started at 179 pw for one bedroom.

If you stay in any city you can never be certain of total quiet - as perfectlypert said, there is always construction happening plus the usual city noise. Staying on the higher levels usuallly helps significantly though. Alternatively, you could sacrifice convenience of location and stay further out of town in a quieter suburb. You will be paying more at somewhere like Quay West due to the very convenient location, and quality of the accommodation. You will save money on taxi fares as you will be able to walk to most places.

Keep your eye on discount sites such as wotif.com - you may pick up a good deal.

perfectlypert - where did you stay last week? It would be handy for us to know.

Try the higher floor as my daughter stayed on the 14th floor & had no noise at all. The lower riverfront rooms definitely have noise with the cranes.
