Australian Footie in Melbourne?

How would I find a good game to go to in Melbourne next week? Also, do they only play on weekends? From what I found so far, I only see weekend games.

Ok thanks . Do I have to worry about games selling out and buy my tickets ahead? Or can I just walk up and buy them at the door?

Games playing in Melbourne this weekend:

Friday 7.50pm North Melbourne vs Carlton at Etihad Stadium

Saturday 1.45pm Melbourne vs Fremantle at Etihad Stadium

Saturday 7.40pm Geelong vs Collingwood at MCG

Sunday 3.15pm Western Bulldogs vs Hawthorn at Etihad Stadium

Probably best to book online - a day in advance should be ok. You could walk up and buy them, but you'd save time standing in line by doing it on the internet - not that difficult, and you can print them out before you go.

If it were me I'd choose the Geelong/Collingwood game, and not just because I go for Geelong, but it should be a great game and may even be a sellout - huge crowd, great atmosphere! Go CATS!

You can look up the details on the AFL website for Round 16

Have fun!

No..seriously depending on who where and when some games will sell out...

Pies and um...that other team ;)

Just walking around docklands/southbank on Saturday can give you the atmosphere...

Agree, Geelong/Collingwood - not only because of the teams but also because it's at The G - traditional home of AFL football.

Great atmosphere - don't expect to understand what is going on.

If you are sitting surrounded by people dressed in Black and White yell out 'Go the Pies' and if the people around you are in Blue and White yell 'Go the Cats'.

That's all you need to know.

I agree with Collingwood/Geelong, it should be the best game of the round & will have the biggest crowd & best atmosphere. Buy yourself a Black & White scarf & practice saying 'Go Pies'. If you look at the Top Questions, there's links to some previous threads which discuss Footy in great detail. Hopefully that will give you an idea about how the game is played.

Now, did someone mention Ice Hockey? Awesome sport, huge fan of the NY Rangers.

Go the Cats!!! Another 'agree' - Geelong/Collingwood will be best game, but I would be booking tickets a lot earlier than 1 day before. Someone on here might be able to guide you as to where the better seats are located. Wear something warm as it will be really cold at night. Have a beer at a pub close by before the game, and a few more after the game and you'll be able to mix with the 'locals' - any pub where you can see people wearing blue/white or black/white scarves. Others on here may be able to suggest some good pubs close by. In Melbourne people 'love to hate' Collingwood - it's a tradition. There will be a big contingent of very passionate Collingwood fans, a big contingent of passionate Geelong fans, and everyone else will be barracking for Geelong just because they won't want Collingwood to win - always makes for a lively and fun atmosphere.
