Snow playing in September

Hi all,

I'm planning to come to Melbourne this September, could be late September, and wondering if it's still possible for snow activities then?

Thanks

It doesn't snow in Melbourne and September is the beginning of Spring in Australia.

The lower slopes where you would go for snow play like Lake Mountain and Donna Buang are unlikely to have snow in late September but you could get lucky with a very late fall.

You would have to travel out of Melbourne for snow, and by September there wouldn't be much (if any) snow left at the closer, 'snow play' areas. We have been to Falls Creek twice in recent years in the last week of September and been lucky enough both times to have plenty of snow for skiing, tobagganing, tubing, etc. However, 'lucky' is the important word here, and I wouldn't rely on there being snow in late September at any of the resorts. Falls Creek is at least 5.5 hours drive from Melbourne so not suitable for a day trip - it often has snow later in the season because it's at a higher altitude. The 'snow play fields' are a lot closer to Melbourne and more suitable for a day trip, but because they are at a lot lower altitude the snow melts earlier in the season - snow at these places is rare (but not unheard of) by late September.

The best snow info site for Victoria is www.snowatch.com.au

Terrible season so far after a very cold June that looked promising. Early September usually has some good snow around but the later in the month it gets, the lesser the chances are. Are you prepared to drive 3 hours to somewhere like Mount Buller to see or play in the snow?
