Christmas displays - any recommendations?

Hi all.

I am in Melbourne prior to Christmas and wanted to take a look at Melbourne kitted out for Christmas.

Apart from the windows at Myer, are there any other nice decorative displays worth seeing?

I am not interested in heading into the suburbs to see people's homes kitted out, rather, museums, shops, open spaces that are known for their Christmas displays.

Thanks, Mez.

Mez, do an image search in google for "Christmas in Melbourne". Then you can click on any of the images to get further info.

Thanks for the suggestions. I already looked at the Johnston Collection but they are closed. I am there from 22-25 Dec.

What a pity, you just miss out by a day! It is supposed to be really lovely at Christmas, so if you could get there a little earlier, they still have places available on the 21st.

If you're a bit of a foodie, you can check out the Gingerbread Village made by award-winning pastry chefs at Epicure's Culinary Centre

'Under the guidance of Australian Chocolate Master Deniz Karaca, Epicure's Pastry Chef, the Village will be built entirely out of gingerbread and will include popular iconic Melbourne landmarks from 2011 (including the Melbourne Town Hall and Melbourne Cricket Ground), plus a new addition as voted by our Facebook fans and visitors to our 2011 exhibition; Luna Park! ' Cute

IMO Give the Myer window a miss it's wayyy too overrated. My wife like taking the kids to Crown they usually have some sort of display with a big Christmas tree, lights, flying Santa displays etc.

Go to Crown Casino. Their christmas display inside the casino near the hotel is amazing and well worth making the effort to go and see.

Have a look at www.melbourne.vic.gov.au/Christmas there is info about what's on in the city including a map of Christmas decorations in the CBD. I picked up a map today but haven't yet gone into the CBD to see the decorations so can't vouch for them but it will at least give you an idea of them and their location.

Check out Melb Town Hall at night, they are projecting animations on the building (not sure how best to describe this)
