Pre theatre dining near Princess Theatre

Off to see Jersey Boys tomorrow evening and would like some suggestions for dinner before 7pm show. Have previously dined at The Windsor but as we are paying for 4 people would like something more affordable. THXS.

The Princess is around the corner from Little Bourke St, so you have all of Chinatown to choose from. Since you are watching your budget, then you won't be looking at the Flower Drum so at that time of day (out by 6:30 I assume) you shouldn't need to book anywhere - just go into a place that takes your fancy.

Longrain is very close and does fabulous Thai food.

The European - almost next door to the Princess, is also a good choice but you're looking at around $35 for a main course.

Punch Lane, also in Little Bourke, is also a good spot but, again, a bit on the pricey side.

On of my personal favorite Chinese restaurants at that end of Chinatown is Shanghai Village Dumpling house. It's a lot more reasonable in price than the others.

Enjoy the show.

If you get a chance, pop into the Supper Club (above the European) for a nightcap after the show.

It does depend on your budget. As Eva has said, you have the whole of Chinatown at your doorstep - from cheap to expensive. I love the atmosphere of the European. But it's not cheap.

If you are looking for a good, but not expensive pub meal, then I would recommend the Imperial - on the corner of Bourke and Spring Sts (and the venue of Tripadvisor's passed get togethers!! Thanks to Ellenwillow)

The new Red Spice Road QV at the QV centre does a great value pre theatre menu and you can park there and walk up. http://qv.redspiceroad.com

How budget are we talking about exactly?

Gotta love Shanghai Village Dumpling House though. Cheap food and a buzz especially during weekends. Only thing is you can't call to make a booking! If you do decide to go there, make sure you have all your crew together otherwise, they'll make you wait out.. lol. Section 8 is just next door and it's great to sit and have a drink too before the show. Both on Tattersalls Lane, Chinatown (Street is opposite QV).

There's Wagamama down Exhibition St/Lt Flinders Lane. You won't burn a hole in your wallet.

Just to offer something else there is the Saigon Inn Liverpool Street. Cheap and cheerful.
