Cheapest time of year for hotels

I'm wanting to arrange a local holiday in the next year some time and am wondering what is the cheapest time of the year for hotel accomodation? I'd be looking at something like a week and staying on st Kilda Rd

1. Re: Cheapest time of year for hotels

Traditionally the quietest time of year in terms of hotel occupancy is midweek May, June and July in all the major cities in Australia.

The exception to the above is during any special events period for that particular city.

Avoid school holiday periods, public holidays and Grand Prix weekend.

Very good advice from mezoz about school holiday periods and the Grand Prix weekend.

However with public holidays, it comes down to specifics. Statistics over the last seven years indicate that some of the religious holidays such as Easter and Christmas are particularly low, almost equivalent to the lowest of rates and occupancy during the 'winter' low season.
