Hotel Recommendations for Melbourne?

Hi there,

I am a 22 year old female, travelling to Australia for 3 weeks in November on holiday with my mum, and catching up with some friends while there. Spending a week in Melbourne and have been recommended some great hotels but they are a bit out of our price range.

Can anyone recommend some great budget hotels, something between £20-£50 per night?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

That is pretty low budget for Melbourne.

It is easier if you quote in the local currency. Your budget is AUD$33- AUD$82 per night.

If you go to a site such as Wotif or lastminute.com.au and put in your budget it will do a search of what's available. You can also refine your search by bed type and location.

You might find something on the outskirts of the CBD in that price range. But it really is more a hostel budget.

Some hostels have twin rooms now, but the vibe might not be what you or your mother is after.

The Nunnery in Fitzroy/Carlton might be ok.http://www.nunnery.com.au/rates.html

Cheers.

Sorry, ran out of editing time.

Here is the link: http://www.nunnery.com.au/rates.html

Also, you might be booking around Melbourne Cup carnival and prices will be very high in the first week of November. If you can organise your trip to be a little later in the month it might help.

I have to agree. You budget is too low to find a hotel room - let alone a great one!

You may need to look at hostels. YHA is a good one but check out the hostel word website for reviews.

If you go too far out of the city what you save on accommodation you'll spend on fares.

A good budget hotel in the city will start at $150. Anything much cheaper is going to have severe limitations so make sure you read all reviews. Have a look at www.wotif.com to get an idea of prices.

Area in Melbourne that are conveniently located would be the CBD, Southbank, Albert Park,South Melbourne,St Kilda, Carlton, Fitzroy, Northcote, Collingwood, Richmond and South Yarra.

Also, have a look at Airbnb. You'll find something in your price range there but it will probably be a room in someone's flat. Again, read the reviews carefully as you would be renting from private individuals.

Congratulations. If you got a room at Ovolo anywhere near the budget the OP quoted you have done exceptionally well and got yourself a real bargain.

It a great hotel.

I don't think the Ovolo is in the Op's price range

Agreed, it would border on near miracle to get the Ovolo at the budget specified at the rate mentioned by the OP.

Ibis Budget (formerly Formule 1) is in a great location. They may be a tad over your budget range though, but, hopefully, not by too much.

Hi Again. Thanks for all the replies. I agree the budget is too low and have upped it to around £80-£100 per night. I'm not keen on hostels but for my mum its a definite no-no.Have been doing some research on hotels but would it be cheaper to book direct with the hotel or through e bookers, agoda etc. I really need to get booked so once again all replies will be appreciated. Thanks Erin

I would suggest taking eva's advice about looking at www.wotif.com to narrow down your selection, then perhaps contact the hotel direct for comparison.

You also mentioned Agoda. Agoda's sister company Booking.Com has a larger presence in Australia, moreso than Agoda, who are more Asia specialists.
