You can walk from Etihad to Southern Cross Station, and then catch a Hurstbridge or South Morang line train and get off at Jolimont station and its just a short walk over to the MCG. Alternatively you can catch one if the trains that stops at Richmond station which is a similar distance but on the other side of the Stadium.
Sounds easy enough!!
You wouldn't happen to know how long the travel time takes on game days??
Or you can walk to the corner of Flinders and Spencer Sts and catch a tram to the MCG. Bear in mind though, that if you stay until the end of the Etihad game, you will probably miss the first quarter of the MCG game.
It's only a quick train trip, maybe 10 minutes max. It can get a bit busy at the station though right after a game with everyone trying to get onto their platform, although being only 1 local team at Etihad crowds won't be too crazy. Trains to one of those stations will leave every 10 minutes or so though so you'll have lots of choices. It's then about a 5-10 minute walk from the station to the MCG.
If you beat the rush from the first game, taxi may not be much more expensive (vs almost $15 for 4x train/tram trips). Should be quicker than walk/train/walk.
If you're already using Myki, then the daily max fare of $7.40 or so each will cover you.
(Myki card purchase would be another $6 each)
From the corner of Harbour Esplanade and Bourke Street
(a) the No 70 tram (Docklands to Wattle Park) will take you straight to the MCG. It runs through the Docklands then along Flinders Street then past the Tennis Centre; or
(b) you can catch the free City Circle tram in the same direction to the top end of Flinders Street and then walk from thereEdited: 07 May 2014, 14:42
Thanks all for the replies
If you dont have MYKI cards then taxi is tbe best option but you will be held up in traffic. The train option will be the fastest.
