Tullamarine Airport vs Avalon Airport

Hi,

This is my first time to Australia.

I am planning to take a budgeted domestic flight from Sydney to Melbourne. I have seen Jetstar with two different airports in Melbourne.

Landed on Avalon has a cheaper price as compare to Tullamarine.

But I have saw some reviews saying that Avalon is bit far.

Just need some advice which airport should I stop?

Besides, I noted SKYBUS from Tullamarine cost $18 per pax to Southern Cross. I also wanted to know how much it cost from Southern Cross station to Middle Park. I couldn't locate any price information online.

Thanks,

Elly

Skybus from Tullamarine is $18 and takes about half an hour (could be more in morning peak hour but buses can use a dedicated bus lane)

Bus transfer from Avalon is $22 and takes about an hour (could be more in morning peak hour)

The fare difference is usually about $10.

If you choose to take a cab, it will be a LOT more from Avalon Airport - well over $100.

Is half an hour or more of your time worth a $6 savings?

From Southern Cross to Middle Park get the number 112 tram from the corner of Spencer St and Collins St. Where to get off depends on where in Middle Park you are going.

To find your way around Melbourne using public transport use …vic.gov.au/…showPlanner

If you have a local SIM card in a smartphone, there is also a free App for the PTV.

The advertisements might say that there are two airports in Melbourne. That is a lie. Avalon airport is actually closer to Geelong than Melbourne. Choose Tullamarine.

Absolutely, there is no comparison - Tullamarine is the airport. Avalon is much too far away from the CBD, especially for international visitors that are unaware of the area. Have a great trip

A 2 hour ticket is valid for travel for 2 hours. An all day ticket allows you to travel for the whole day. You don't have to worry about it. Depending on how often and when you tap your card as you get on (and off) a tram (or train) the system works it out and charges you the cheapest fare for the day.

Hi I have just book a similiar flight and I took Avalon as cost the total price difference for 4 pax is a savings of $170 for me (airfare + shuttle). If u book a return shuttle, it is another savings of $2 per pax (return trip is $42 per pax).
