Family Holiday to WA June/July 2014

I would like some advice on a family holiday we are looking at taking in June or July 2014.

There will be 8 in the group consisting of parents (60 year old) plus adult kids 25-30 year old

We are looking at heading over to WA somewhere within half a days driving distance from Perth. We are hoping to hire a house and would like to go to a destination where there are a few things for everyone to do like fishing, national parks, walks etc.

Had looked into heading north to the Coral Coast area or else south to Margaret River region.

At that time of the year I would head north. However, the interesting spots eg Kalbarri are more than half a day's drive. The south west, around MR is great but will be a bit chilly and the chance of cold frontal rain during those months. If you do head north then make sure you book soon as northern parts can get busy during winter. Both areas offer what you are after.

Half a day's drive won't get you very far north. It's a 577 km drive to Kalbarri, took us eight hours.

There's much more to do south, but it could be definitely be brisk.

Have you considered Pemberton or Denmark? About ~4 hours south of Perth - fishing, forests, beaches, national parks, wineries, lakes, some nice tracks (including the Bibbulmun). You'd drive through Walpole on the way to Denmark - treetop walk, Valley of the Giants. Endless options down south if you don't mind taking a chance with the winter weather.
