Advice needed on the new Indian Ocean Dr rd to Cervantes

Hi

My family is doing a self-drive trip up to the Pinnacles from Perth city. Understand that with the new road, Pinnacles can be reached about 30 min shorter. Check goggle map etc - Do not seem to have much information on this new road.

Can anyone advise on the road directions From Perth to Cervantes on this new road ?

Thks

Find Wanneroo Road; keep driving, follow signs at Cervantes.

You might take the freeway or Wanneroo Rd for the first 20 or so kilometres out of the city. After that it isn't hard, just keep heading north.

If you take the freeway from Perth this is what google maps suggests

3. Take exit Hodges Drive towards Joondalup 650 m

4. Turn right to stay on Hodges Drive 450 m

5. Turn left onto Joondalup Drive (Go through 1 roundabout) 5.1 km

6. Turn left onto Wanneroo Rd 50.4 km

7. Continue onto Lancelin Rd 38.7 km

8. Continue onto Indian Ocean Drive 68.4 km

9. Turn right onto Grey Rd/Indian Ocean Drive 98 m

10. Turn left onto Indian Ocean Drive 11.5 km

Hansen Rd Cervantes WA

If you enter Perth and Hansen Rd Cervantes WA into the get directions of google maps this route will be laid out for you.

Hi

The easiest way is to get onto the Mitchell Freeway heading North. Follow it to the very end. (Burns Beach Road) Turn right.

Follow this road until you hit the traffic lights at Wanneroo Road. Turn left here.

Just follow Wanneroo Road straight through til you hit the turn off either to the Pinnacles (right turn) or to Cervantes town (left turn a little way up).

Wanneroo Road becomes Indian Ocean Drive at some point along the way.

I drive this road quite frequently and it is about 30 minutes quicker than the old inland road.

Just be aware that if you are driving in the early morning or early evening there can be kangaroos and other wildlife on the road.

Hiya purple

Just a couple of thyings to be aware of when driving this road (we do it a lot) - it can be very very busy with caravans and 4WD in holiday times. There are a few places to overtake safely BUT not many so if you get stuck in a que stay in it, it is only one lane eash way.

The road isn't fenced and many animals stray onto it, especially at dawn and dusk. There are no services once you leave Lancelin until you get to Cervantes, so there will be no stopping for food, drinks or fuel. Its not a long way but if you don't know in advance you could get caught short.

The scenery along the coast is magnificent and there are two shack settlements along the way. The first one Wedge is accessible by 2WD drive and the second near the Pinnacles - Grey is accessible by 2wd to the car park and then its a little walk. The general public are very welcome at these spots just read the signs and follow the rules.

Definately use the coast road beside being quicker it is much safer than the Brand Highway.

Have a wonderful and safe trip.
