where to stay for a seniors couple

Hi im organising a holiday stay for my inlaws in Perth for 10 days. They live in Melbourne and have never been to WA. Would like some suggestions on where they should stay - They would basically like to be walking distance from the beach and restuarants. A hotel with self contained units and a pool would be ideal.

Thanks you for your input.

Scarborough or Sorrento would fit the bill IMO'. Have a look on wotif and stayz using those two locations.

Will they have a car? I find public transport in and out of Scarborough isn't great and find the restaurant scene there limited. But if they have a car they should be good to go.

If not, and the beach isn't quite so important as the other criteria you could look at the Esplanade in Fremantle. There are beaches nearby reachable by a long walk or a short trip on a bus.

It depends whether the couple actually want to swim or just be close to water ??

Scarbourough has a lovely beach but there is limited choice regarding restaurants etc.. the other beach location is Cottesloe it has better restaurants IMO.

For Cottesloe - wotif.com/hotels/australia-perth-cottesloe-h…

For Scarborough - wotif.com/hotels/australia-perth-scarborough…

Another vote for Fremantle !

In Scarborough they could stay at Seashells Resort .. which is very popular... it's right on the beach and has a pool. They are self contained apartments.

There are heaps of restaurants within walking distance, and a small shopping centre which has a Coles supermarket in it, as well as other small shops like chemist, newsagency etc.

There is public transport from Scarborough .. buses are about 200 metres from Seashells, right outside the shopping centre ... and they go to Karrinyup Shopping Centre (where there is Myer, David Jones, Big W, Wollies and many other stores .. and has a food court etc) ... or buses also go along Scarborough Beach Road to Glendalough Station, which they can connect to the CBD . .using the one ticket.

Also along Scarborough Beach Road is Innaloo, (the bus goes past it) which has a Westfield shopping centre, with K Mart, Target, Coles, Woolies, a food court and many other stores .. there is also a large cinema complex opposite the shopping centre, and many restaurants around as well.

I think they will enjoy Seashells ... I just had visitors from the UK who stayed there and enjoyed it. The views of the ocean will be awesome for them, and they can watch the sunset. One thing we have that Melbourne doesn't...!

Fremantle is great because touristy things are so close to each other. Catch the free CAT buses around and the lovely South Beach can be reached on the blue CAT. No waves so you don't get knocked about. Excellent range of food options in Freo.

I would say Fremantle as well. Lots to do and see. Beach is great, fishing boat harbour a lovely place to stroll around and find great places to eat. Shops, cafes and atmosphere. From Fremantle they can get the ferry across to Rottnest for a day trip. Easy to get around, and the train line runs straight into Perth city.

There is quite a large range of accomodation options from hotels, to lovely B&B's to apartments. Just do a google search on Fremantle accomodation, making sure you check the location so it is not to far out of the center of Fremantle.
