Suggestions for beach walk/lunch on a weekday

Hello I've recently moved to Perth, still finding my bearings. My Canadian boyfriend will be visiting for a day on a Friday. I'd like to take him for walk along a nice beach maybe for a couple of km's and then stop for lunch somewhere with good food and a nice view.

I know there are many beaches but can anyone recommend a good beach for walking along? I have a car and don't mind driving I live near Freo i'm tossing up between Cottesloe, City beach and someone mentioned Laytons but I'll have to look that up

thank you in advance.:)

How about here:

Park a couple of kms away along West Coast Drive and stroll there and back

Also just up the road:

Hi AJ thank you for your quick reply!

Those restaurants look great and so I guess North Beach is a nice beach to walk along?

Not for a long walk...its more like a series of bays separated by rocky outcrops. But the walk along the path near the road is very popular. You could move between the beach and footpath I guess. You would have to travel further north past Hillarys or south of Triggs to get long stretches of beaches.

City Beach and Floreat are nice beaches to walk along

Perhaps I'm biased, but in a previous existence, we lived in Perth and never tired of the walks around Cottesloe (including on the groyne). Then you could eat in the iconic Blue Duck! http://www.blueduck.com.au/

We had a lovely lunch last Wednesday at Barchetta on Cottesloe Beach.

I'd pick Barchetta over the Blue Duck for food, service and value for money any day.

The Leighton to Cottesloe walk or vv is one of the best in Perth for food to food points, all along white sand if that is your wish. (Note the spelling of Leighton :-) ) Part of Leighton is a dog beach but it is fun to witness the furry fiends having a great time.

I really like Bib and Tucker at Leighton Beach - you can have a coffee there before turning back to Cottesloe. That section of beach is great as the ocean front path runs next to the beach so you can get on it if sand too soft. A good walkable distance.

I've always thought the Blue Duck fairly ordinary as well, Perthite.
