NYE in Perth

Hi all,

I am travelling to Perth for a couple weeks at the end of December and currently have no plans or any idea what to do for NYE.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

The official Perth City Council visitors website called Show Me Perth (sorry I can do a link on the phone) will have all the details for the Northbridge events.

The close off streets to traffic so people have the run of the area. Lots of street performers and bands etc.

it use to be more adult oriented but it recent years they have upped the security patrols and made the whole event very family friendly.

There are fireworks display in several places in Perth. The one on Perth City is quite a sight. I personally would go to Kings Park and view it from there. But the fireworks display is just a small and short one.

Perth is kind of dull on New Year’s Eve. There are no public fireworks, although a number of private venues have brief shows which can be seen around the river. Many popular venues have ticketed events which sell out before the night. Northbridge is ok but they shut the music off right after midnight though pubs and clubs remain open.

Crown Casino is a good bet (sorry!). They have a number of nightclubs, some with admission charge and others free - Groove Lounge is a free venue that has a good band and dance floor. You can go outside and see the fireworks on the other side of the river at midnight too (from one of the music festivals).

We went to Kings Park a couple of years ago expecting to be able to see some fireworks and were disappointed. Whilst it was a nice night to have a quiet picnic, the fireworks from Northbridge and Gloucester Park couldn't be seen through all the buildings in the city.

As previously mentioned, if you don't have tickets to an event there's not really much going on. I'd check out what's going on in different bars and see if any of it appeals to you, if you aren't interested in going to Northbridge.

The grounds next to the Crown Casino is a must if you're after fireworks and a late night BBQ or picnic along the river. Very nice on a hot summers night. Have been there the last two NYE's and it's not too crowded and the fireworks were quite good. It's very family friendly and there's not been any signs of undesirable behaviour.

Parking may be a little difficult to get and you may need to park in the business area just a 5 minute walk over Great Eastern Hwy.
