Family holiday in march 11 days in perth and surrounding

Hi everyone,

I am planning to travel to Perth with my family (3 children ages 4,3,1) in march and would very much like your advise on where to go and stay.

we were thinking the following:

Perth 3 days

Yallingup 3 days

Pemberton 2 (farmstay)

Denmark 3 days

Thank you all very much for your response

Well, it's all very dependent on

What you like to do

What your budget is

How you plan to get around (and if renting a car you will also need to rent infant seats for all three)

IME saying "two days here, three days there" is a poor way to plan a trip. You really should look at the tourist centre websites (links at the bottom right of this page: westernaustralia.com/au/Pages/Welcome_to_Wes… ) to see what you would like to do and work out how long it will take you to do it. Otherwise you end up missing out on things you'd like to do and hanging around wasting time in places where you've run out of things to do. Also have a look at the Trip Reports (under Top Questions at the right of the screen) and Perth Day Trips, which includes other trips as well.

March will be very warm weather and you will need light clothing, hats (especially for the little ones) and lots of sunscreen.

Thanks for your quick response.

We live in Brunei at the moment so we are used to the hot weather :)

We would very much like to spend sometime on the beach, see the australian animals, love wineries, spend sometime in a farm stay.

we have a reasonable budget to be able to stay in a nice place at night.

We are indeed planning on renting a car with 3 infant seats.

Could you elaborate on the nights you've actually allocated to spend in those places because if you've got 11 days total (10 nights) then you'll use up a day on each trip between those locations. For example is Pemberton 2 nights and 1 full day there or 3 nights with 2 full days there?

We were thinking of the following :

we are early morning in perth- spend 2 nights/2 days near cottesloe?

(Spend time on the beac, visit kings park and go to rottenest island)

leave early morning to Yallingup with a couple of stops in Bunsbury and Busselton

spend 3 nights/2 full days

drive to Pemberton spend 1,5 days

drive to Denmark spend 2,5 days and 3 night and drive back to Perth.

What do you think? is this doable with 3 little kids? do you suggest something else?

Thank you very much for your responses

With three little ones I'd suggest looking into renting holiday cottages/apartments which will give the kiddies a bit more room to run around and also give you the option to do a bit of self catering, which not only keeps costs down but also means meals are ready when you want them and not having to go somewhere and wait when the littlies are agitating because they want to eat NOW :-) (BTDT).

I believe Tuesdays the ferry costs to Rottnest are discounted so this could be a big factor. Be sure you can hold onto your three littlies :-) Don't want them dashing off the ferry or taking off once you're on Rotto.

Is there a particular farmstay you're considering in Pemberton?

If you come at the right time, Sculpture by the Sea will be on in Cottesloe, well worth spending half a day there and the older kiddies should enjoy it going by the reactions of other kiddies I have seen in previous years:

sculpturebythesea.com/exhibitions/cottesloe.…

The drive back from Denmark will take about 5 hours and if your littlies aren't inclined to fall asleep in their seats it may be a bit fraught so have a look into places you can stop for them to blow off steam. Of course, this means the trip could well take all day so factor that into your timeframe.

What exactly do you plan to do in Yallingup, Pemberton and Denmark? Is the time you've allocated enough, or should you maybe drop one stop?

Ok thats looks like a doable plan. We stayed a few years back in Pemberton here:

http://www.pembertonfarmchalets.com.au/

I thought the 2 bed chalets looked a bit on the small size so we opted for the 4 bed chalet. Very roomy which will give your littlies room to run around and also it is set away from the other chalets in the forest so you wont be bothered by other kids running riot or your kids disturbing others. Its still on the "farm" so you have access to all the activities etc. But, being surrounded by forest you also get the bonus of the occassional visit from kangaroos and bandicoots.

I really like Denmark and that part of the world, but to echo YorkFoodie's last point perhaps dropping one of the destinations. Consider just going to Yallingup and Pemberton for two different locations and spend a bit longer in each. It's quite a winding (but beautiful) drive from Pemberton to Denmark and as mentioned a long drive back to Perth. With three little ones it might be good not to have a heap of driving and leave yourselves to time to relax.

Maybe consider sticking to the South West ( Yallingup, Margaret River , Augusta, Nannup, Balingup and Pemberton) and leave Albany, Denmark, Walpole for another trip.

Re time inPerth I wouldn't rush to go to Rottnest. With a couple of days I would recommend Kings Park ( great playgrounds for kids), river foreshore such as Matilda Bay and Peppermint Grove (another great playground), Cottesloe Beach, South Beach Fremantle ( lovely playgrounds), Fremantle and Hillary's.
