So much to see ... so little time - advice please!

We have read all the threads here about travel to New Zealand, and have used them to create an itinerary for our trip in August. Thanks for all the info!

We're not sure if we've got it right though - can you have a look and give us any advice on how we can alter it to make it better? We only have 14 nights and want to get as much in as possible while actually getting a 'holiday'. We were wondering whether to take 1 night out of North Island and tag it on in Auckland at end?

Any advice on accomodation while we're there would be great too!

You will need a holiday just to recover from this holiday. A heck of a lot of driving is involved.

If you're renting a car be sire to check if the rental company allows you to take it no South island. Some don't. For accommodation try the BBH guide. It's hostel type accommodation, but decent and really a good value for money. Take a look at bbh.co.nz.

Another night in Auckland? I would not recomend it. NZ is about sights and nature, leave the cities for some other country.

Day 6 - Surfing in Welington - O/N Wellington ?????? 8-) In August????? You must be keen, you'll need a ski suit not a skin suit.

Make sure you have a very comfortable rental- you're going to need it the amount of time spent in it!

I would try and head to Rotorua as soon as you arrive. I know jet-lag may be a problem but really you're at the southern end of Auckland and to drive into town, maybe sleep away the afternoon you won't gain anything. If you get to Rotorua, you can get settled get your bearing and be ready to hit the road running the next morning.

What time do you fly home? August is the height of the winter & Qwtn airport can be closed due to weather - low cloud & snow. Maybe a day earlier to Auckland would be best.

Also keep an check on the weather when you're in Kaikoura, if Arthurs Pass is closed you can head to the West Coast via Lewis Pass from Kaikoura.
