flights to franz / fox glacier or milford sounds?

HI

I want it all , but its expensive !!, Go to NZ early Feb 08

Looked at helicopter flights to twin glacier and mt Cook which are $350 with Glacier helicopters .

Then i also want to go to milford sounds from either Wanaka or Queenstown but these seem to all be $750+ by helicoper, everyone on these forums says dont miss this so then started to look at planes instead but is there any way of doing it all much cheaper, don't want to do coach tours stuff

Well, you could hitch hike. Unfortunately if you want champagne you have to be prepared to pay for it. Most of us make do with Chateux Cardboard.

99.9% of people go to Milford Sound by road, either by coach, or driving themselves. THe reason for this is: a) it is a fabulous drive, and b) it is cheaper than flying.

You should make plans to visit Milford by road, and once you are in Queenstown, if the weather if good, and you have money left, you could look at taking a flight. THe best way is if you can combine the two. Fly in and coach out.

VBC's advice is very good - dont miss the Milford road drive - you will miss 50% of the awe inspiring scenery otherwise.
