Okay, Now for Somehting That Really Matters - Pizza

I love pizza and never get tired of it.

So, when I travel I try to find interesting pizza like that at local favorite pizzarias. I do admit to also eating the big chain ones when it's the only thing available or nearby (and I have a craving for it).

So, for the following cities, where is the best pizza?

CHC

Dundein

Te Anau

Wanaka

Fox Glacier

Nelson

Wellington

Taupo

AKL

If anyone is wondering, this is also my itinerary.

I will not eat pizza and only pizza every day. I will try real NZ food, too.

So, anyone willing to reveal their favorite pizza?

Also, are there any great NZ pizza chains that need to not be overlooked?

I will have a vehicle and am willing to drive for great pizza.

Thanks for any and all info.

In Wellington, the Mediterranean Food Warehouse has a reputation for great pizza, although I have personally never eaten there.

I also suggest taking a look at www.dineout.co.nz. It's full of reviews of local restaurants by locals, so might help you weed out the places you shouldn't be visiting.

It's good to know you take pizza seriously!

Wanaka has Tuatara Pizza which is rather yummy menumania.co.nz/restaurants/tuatara-pizza-bar

The Cow also does pizza. I haven't tried it but their garlic bread is heavenly :)

Hi Britkette,

I'm another fan of Hell. Favourite is Lust.

In Auckland, the Rebo Cafe and Bar at Sky city also do a good pizza.

Cheers.

Britkette whilst I appreciate your love of pizza. Why not be a bit daring whilst in NZ and try some local lamb, hangi food, crayfish, kumara.

Pizza is much the same the world over. Participate in a different culture and try localised food.

You can eat local style food for much the same price as good pizza, it may take a little more effort sussing it out.

What a top post, Britkette! I'm definitely siding with WanakaLakes and voting for Tuatara Pizza in Wanaka. It beats Queenstown's Cow by a nose! And it is the scene of my best pizza story...

After a hellish week of being blizzard-battered on Aspiring, five smelly, tired and ravenous blokes slump into a Tuatara booth and grab menus. Most of us go the predicatble meatlover options but Melbournian Tony opts for the cranberry, venison & spinach. He is mocked and derided by his colleagues - accused of softness and even snobbish, metrosexual tendencies. Needless to say, upon sampling Tony's choice of pie, five more cranberry, venison & spinaches were ordered and he was readmitted to our now-more-culinary-enlightened clique with commendations and a couple of tequila chasers.

I was distraught last time I went to Tuatara because it was off the menu but the waitress said if you call them a day or two beforehand, they could probably arrange it. And the venison is hunted locally so it qualifies as authentic Kiwi food! Bon appetit!

Thanks everyone.

I will head straight to Hell when I arrive.

And the others as well, if I get near them.

I do want to try some local food.

However, I find lambs and their older relatives so adorable looking that I will have a hard time getting myself to eat them.

I know they are raised as food.

I do eat beef. I know calves are sweet too. Yet I never saw one "in person" til I was of an age to have been eating beef for many years.

Now, crayfish are another matter. Those are tasty critters. I've had them boiled in seasoned water.

How are they cooked and served in NZ? Do they have a season? Where will I find them?

Thanks again for the info fellow pizza lovers.
