What is your concern? About the highest rate in difference location?

I dont think is a significant different on the rate in diff location. However, is the timing issue. There may have a significant different if you change the currency NOW or 1 MONTH later. As the US currency was appreciated very significantly 2 weeks ago, the market forecast the US currency will be either stablelized or start dropping. NZ dollar is weaker while US dollar is stronger, in another words, you can change lesser to US dollar from NZ dollar.

How much money are you wanting to exchange? There is a limit on the amount of currency you can take across borders. Not sure about the US, but in NZ, more than $NZ$10,000 in cash must be declared.

If you want to ship a large amount of money internationally you should do it through a bank, and that would need to be done before you leave NZ.

If you are concerned about the conversion rate, this fluctuates day by day, and choosing the right time to do it is an art, although judging by the mess the international markets are in right now it's probably more like a lottery.

All money exchanges (eg Travelex) will charge a commissin of top of the conversion. You are at their mercy wherever you decide to exchange.

With the way the $NZ is sinking against the greenback my advice is change it as soon as you can. Today would be good.
