Tongarira National Park

How long is the hike to Emerald Lake and back in Tongarira? Are there any shorter hikes that are worth doing?

The Emerald Lakes are just over half way along the Tongariro crossing, so it would be a 6-8 hour walk with a lot of it on steep terrain.

There are a number of walks in the area which you can find on the DOC website: …govt.nz/publications/…

Depends on where you would be starting from. Taranaki Falls is a very pleasant 2 hr circuit from Whakapapa Village ( near the DoC Vistors' Centre).
