How much time to spend in Nelson this Sunday?

We currently are in Kaiteriteri spending a couple of wonderful days in AT park. We fly out Sunday night from Nelson back to the states. We are wondering whether to head back to Nelson early enough to spend some time there before needing to be at the airport at 5:15. weather forecast is for rain. We do not have a car but previously got info about storing our luggage for awhile. Any suggestions about how much time to spend in Nelson?

Nelson is a great spot - you can walk to the centre of NZ, visit WOW, enjoy the Sunday market (Saturday is the larger market) or just enjoy a lovely leisurely lunch.

While rain is forecast it seldom rains for as long as predicted.

With the options of AT or Nelson, you really can't lose!

And re our earlier chats, offer still open :)

The best things about Nelson are the beaches and the Saturday market. Both of which are useless to you on a rainy Sunday. Other things to see are the centre of New Zealand (basically just a pretty park and nothing special), the Cathedral. There is the glass blowing at Hoglund and some other crafty shops if you feel like shopping.

Personally, I'd spend a leisurely morning in Kaiteriteri before heading back to Nelson. Check out a few of the glass shops and treat yourself to a nice seafood lunch. It's scallop season so if you haven't tried them yet, now's your chance. The Boat Shed used to be good - but been a few years since I've been there.

Alternatively you could head back early and see if you can find an organised winery tour to go on.

Thank you SO much for your response. Wedid find out that we can store luggage at a backpackers in town, so that will work well for us and be convenient. We will spend a few hours in Nelson and are looking forward

to it. Hate to be leaving NZ tomorrow!

Rain was forecast for Nelson today but it was lovely weather with not a drop of rain. Hope the same for tomorrow.

Enjoy Nelson and safe travels home :)

Yep, the rain was heavy, it's stopped now.

and if those tourists had bothered to camp in a campground instead of trying to hide away and avoid paying for legal camping then they would have my sympathy. I would fine them for creating a shipping hazzard in the river and harbour!

Wishing you nothing but blue skies Z :)
