north & south- 18 days drve tour

We wiilb arriving Aukland 18/03 and have 18 days to guet to chisthchurch for our return flight on 6/04 We are 50 aged so we dicided to stay 3 nights in Auckl (jet legg) .

21/03- pick up car & drive to Waitomo Caves and sleep at Rotorua

22/03- Rotorua (explore)

23/03- rotorua -taupo-WlG

24/03- WLG (explore)

25/03- AM or PM ? ferry to Picton

South island

26/03 -drive to nelson

27/03- Abel Tasman

28/03- Drive to Punakaiki

29/03 - " Franz Josef

30/03 - glaciers

31/ 03 - drive Haast Pass to Wanaka

01/04 - drive Queenstown

o2/04- queenstown

03/04 -Queenstown -milford sound

04/04-milford sound -tekapo -christchurch

05/04-christchurch

06/04- Fly home early morning

Welcome to the Forum. Your planning goes really well until the 4th. Milofrd Sound to QTN is way too far for one day - AA maps gives it as more than 10 hours driving - add fuel stops, food, photo opps etc and you are looking at 12-13 hours straight through - NOT recommended.

Even QTN to Chch is considered a long drive by locals - and it is so scenic you won't want to rush it. First suggestion is to do a day trip by coach to Milford Sound on the 2nd. Then on the 4th drive QTN to Lake Tekapo (via Mt Cook if you wish). That leaves you with a shortish drive to Chch on the 5th and half a day to see Chch.

i decided not to do a tour in the very last time... and now i in trouble planing the tour.

milford sound on the 2nd is a good option (return the same day ?)

I'll check the hotels ...

when you decide to eat portuguese food in lisbod i' ll be very pleased to make a food tour just for you

In Milford, there's only one lodge and a whole lot of sandflies. Best to return to Queenstown.

You'll be fine on the cruise at Milford. Sandflies don't like boats in motion.

31 drive Haast Pass to Wanaka :)

1 drive to Queenstown

2 explore

3 bus/cruise Milford Sound, bus or scenic flight back to Q'town

4 drive Lindis Pass to Aoraki/Mt Cook

5 drive to Christchurch

6 fly home

i thing wanakaLakes inetrnerary suites me very well . the cruise is a very good option ( no flies for sure)
