Bus or airline North Island

As driving on the left dide will be stressful and dangerous, I have to choose between bus or airline for the 300 mile trip from Rotorua to Wellington. Air travel will be quick and convenient. A bus trip will allow me to enjoy spectacular scenery at Tongarino National Parl, Lake Taupo, 3 volcanos and Rangipu Desert. I would appreciale guidance from travelers who have made this trip. David

If it's any consolation, New Zealand highways have no where near the traffic the USA has. Highway driving is a piece of cake, just stay within the 100kph speed limit. The most stressful part for you will be through the towns. NZ is very good about having a street sign with an angled arrow towards the left lane at almost every intersection.

Two lane roundabouts are the worst. But if I can do it, anyone can. Just keep telling yourself, "left, left" and look both ways an extra time before turning. An alert passenger is always a help, whether reading a map or voice cues to stay left.

If you have the time I think the bus trip would be enjoyable. Buses usually make a " comfort stop" every 2-3 hours at a cafe. This is a full day journey.

You could take a return flight to Rotorua and then the train from Auckland to Wellington. To add more variety to your travels, catch a bus to Hamilton and the train from there. The Northern Explorer goes from Auckland/Hamilton to Wellington three days per week. (Monday, Thursday & Saturday). Google Kiwirail or Northern Explorer to find out more. You will see a lot of the countryside from the train.
