2 weeks in New Zealand

There's so much I want to see and do in New Zealand, and I really want to do it justice. I want to hit a couple spots on the North island like, Bay of Islands, and then pick up a flight to Queenstown, and finish up the rest of the trip down there. Is that doable or too aggressive.

With only two weeks I would choose one island and then you will only "scratch the surface".

What time of the year would you visit and what are your interests?

The South Island has Fiordland, glaciers, amazing scenery and a bewildering array of activities.

The North Islandd has the larger cities, thermal wonders and extant Maori culture.
