Coach tour + hiking

We would like to combine a coach tour of both islands with a few day hikes (no camping), in Waikato area and may be somewhere else. But, so far, we were able to find tour operators that offer either pure coach tours, or pure (or mostly) backpacking tours with camping. Do you know of any tour operator which might offer what we are looking for ?

Hi Mike :)

Not sure what you mean by 'pure coach tours'? There are dozens upon dozens of coach tours to choose from - your local travel agent will have loads plus more can be found through Google.

A camping adventure tour - Flying Kiwi will suit you :)

WLnz, yes, there are tons of coach tours, and tons of backpacking tours. What we are looking for is a coach tour that would include time for day hikes in some destinations, and that's what we have difficulty finding.

I don't know of any good tramping in theWaikato apart from a few old volcanoes like Karioi, nr Raglan& Pirongia, nr Te Awamutu. Most of the Waikato is farmland. There is a South Waikato walkway along the river, but the best tramps are found in National Parks.

Most people who go on coach tours are older & not very adventurous. Have you looked at Stray?
