North Island Itinerary Help!!!!!

Visiting family(wedding) in Whangarei for 3 nts Nov. 25, renting car and plan on taking 7 day trip south of Whangarei (NOT SOUTH ISLAND).

***3nts Rotorua****.

I need help!!!

Want to do everything, like adventure but not extreme sports, love caves, mineral springs, very reasonably priced spa experiences, history, exploration. Will have a car but from US so a little challenging driving in NZ but have done before.

Rotorua seems to have lots to do in and around.

Drive to Waitomo from Rotorua or stay in Waitomo to do caves?

Don't want to zig zag all around so basically travel from Whangarei for 7 days and include 2 or 3 nights in Rotorua with 4 to 7 more days to ????? Then head back to Whangarei on day 8??

Any ideas???

Do a short loop tour of the central North Island taking in Waitomo Caves (overnight), followed by Taupo, Rotorua (2/3 nights) and Coromandel peninsula.

Also recommend exploring the Far North, with an overnight in Mangonui-Taipa to visit Cape Reinga. Waipoua Forest can be visited as a day trip from Whangarei via Dargaville. Same with Paihia & Russell.

Thank you so much, I was overwhelmed and did not want to be zigzagging all over NZ. Would you suggest overnighting in Coromandel?

Yes, an overnight stop in Coromandel would be a good idea. There is a lot to see there.

Hukafalls jet followed by Mine Bay Rock Carvings (kayak) ending with Taupo DeBretts Spa? Is there enough time to do all this in a day? Will arrive in Taupo by noon hopefully and depart next day. Save Hukafalls jet for morning before we head to Rotorua? Any comments on Taupo DeBretts Spa or suggestions for other mineral spas in Taupo?

Both sides of Coromandel peninsula offer interesting attractions, including natural scenery. Spend the night on the east coast around Whitianga - Cooks Beach - Hahei as a convenient overnight stop.

Taupo overnight at de Bretts makes a good overnight stop. The resort has great onsite facilities including the thermal bathing/spa. Taupo itself and the surrounding area has plenty to do for your length of stay. Lake activities, bungi, bush walks, thermal sights (Orakei Korako and Craters of the Moon), the Prawn Farm, Huka Falls and Aratiatia Rapids included.
