department store in Wellington or was it Auckland?

Hi

I need your help.

The last time I went to New Zealand we went shopping in a department store and I am trying to find out what it was called.

Its was an older type store. I think it was on the side of a hill. The ground floor or it might of been the basement had food and kitchen stuff. It was reasonably smart, like a small version of harrods.

I can't remember if it was in Auckland or Wellington, but if I had to guess I would say Auckland.

Anyone got any idea of where I am talking about?

Thanks

Alex

Sounds as if it could have been Smith & Caughey in Auckland which is on Queen Street (a hill)

In Auckland, I think you might be thinking of Smith & Caugheys, cnr of Queen Street & Wellesley Street

My first thought is Farmers Department store in Auckland.http://www.farmers.co.nz/

It meets your description.

I did think https://kirkcaldies.co.nz/ but it is in central wellington on the flat

I'm not sure that its Farmers. I remember Kirkcaldie & Stains I have been there a few times but its not that either.

Thanks anyway

I'd go with Smith and Caughey's. Wellesley St goes uphill along the side of Smith and Caughey's, so that it's necessary to go up a flight of stairs to get out the back entrance onto Elliott St.
