New Zealand Air Upgrade

I want to upgrade my coach seats with Air New Zealand. They seem to have some sort of "buyer bid" arrangement. I don't understand how this system works. Can someone explain it to me?

The 'bid' system works as follows : you nominate how much money you are prepared to spend for an upgrade then you wait to hear back from AirNZ to see if your bid was successful. Can't remember the timing from bidding to result - check the terms and conditions on AirNZ website.

It would seem that higher bids are more successful however I have got upgrades from economy to business class Akld-Syd with bids of AUD250.00.

It's a bit clearer on the Air New Zealand website.

Higher bids are more successful and members of the AirNZ loyalty schemes get extra weighting. It is also dependent on spare seats being available. AirNZ's longhaul product is very popular and usually full especially at peak times. Good luck
