My husband and I are planning a trip to New Zealand. We are leaving April 7th, and we will be staying through May 1st. We will arrive in Christchurch on April 9th (23 total travel days). We would like to explore the SI for 14-16 days before taking the ferry to the North Island. We will fly out of Auckland on the 1st. We will be renting a car. I have looked at some of the itineraries on here, but cannot find something that quite matches our needs. We definitely want to incorporate the below places into our trip, but I am unsure how many days are best for each place. If there are any other places that you would recommend, I am open for suggestions. What would be best way to see the SI in 14-16 days and spend the remaining time in the NI? I appreciate any assistance you can offer. Thanks!
- Franz Joseph Glacier or Fox Glacier?
- Te Anau
- Milford or Doubtful Sound?
- Queenstown (would like to do some horseback riding, golf, etc.)
- Aoraki/Mt Cook
- Nelson (Abel Tasman)
- Lake Taupo
- Rotorua (also Waitomo Caves and Matamata - Hobbiton)
