South Island for pensioners

Has anyone done a short luxury coach tour from Christchurch taking in wanaka, Milford, mount cook (flexible on stops), with someone with LIMITED mobility... Ie can walk on level surfaces for half a mile only, aged nearly 80. Need a company that caters for this limitation. Any experiences would love to know...

Welcome to the forum Cardy :)

Possibly your biggest issue will be getting on and off the tour coach. Will you be travelling alone, or with someone who can assit you with the bus and your luggage?

I suggest you contact the tour companies directly with your concerns.

here are some links to help get you started -

Best of luck :)

Hi,

Great advice from WLnz as always.

The mother of a friend has used Black Sheep Tours in NZ and always speaks highly of the company. She is also in her eighties and whilst able to walk needs assistance with her luggage, (all she can manage is a small day pack). I don't have any direct knowledge of this company so this is second hand info.

It can't hurt to contact them for a quote.

Cheers,

I was going to mention Black Sheep Touring - however I thought their coach tours possibly too active for you.

They also do private tours - I had some of their guests stay with me when I owned a B&B.

A really good company, I was impresed with the quality - but could be costly for a private tour.

thank you for those answers, it's not for me but for my m-in-law.

she can get on and off the coach walk a short way and handle a small bag.

will investigate those companies and if anyone else has something else. I'm afraid of her going on a tour and spending most of it on the coach as she won't be able to walk from the coach park to the sights she has come to see.
