Newzealand in September

Is September a good time to visit NZ. We are planning a trip for 12 days in NZ. Can anyone advise me if its a good time to visit, And the best places to see during that period.

September is the first month of spring, its slightly wetter then average (but nothing like the Wet season you experience in India), day lengths are reasonable and temperatures are mild but morning frosts can still occur. The West coast is often wet, and while its raining on the west the east coast would be experiencing very powerful warm winds.... after a while the weather swings around to the south which brings colder, calmer conditions.

The pastures should be lush and green, and most of the mountains would be very scenic with fresh covering of snow. There would be lambs, calves in the paddocks, Its also a shoulder season so prices would be slightly lower for accommodation and activities.

Best places to visit does not really change depending on month

Hi

Thank you for the prompt reply. Given, the number of days=12, do you think i should restrict my visit to north or south specifically or will i be able to do justice to both?

Probably best just to stick with the South Island it would be very rushed otherwise.

If you search the forums should be able to find examples of 12 day itineraries which should help get your planning started.

One option is to arrive Auckland, spend a day adjusting to NZ time-zone and recovering from travel fatigue. Take a coach-tour from Auckland to Waitomo caves before continuing on to Rotorua the same day. Spend a day or two exploring the thermal attractions and cultural activities. Fly to South Island from this city.

Year round the Waitomo Caves and Rotorua are major draw-cards. Plenty to see and experience in Rotorua and its surrounds - thermals, bathing pools, lakes and streams, Maori culture and arts, including evening feast and cultural performances, Kiwi-birds, Agrodome and man-made attractions/fun events.
