Will i-sites make phone calls?

While we're in NZ, I'm 99% sure we won't have a working mobile phone. There are however a couple of places that we will need to call. Will i-sites make those calls for us or will we have to use a payphone (do these still exist, lol)?

Thanks,

Torin

Plan A is to have a working mobile phone!

Plan B, for accommodation is to get your accommodation to call ahead - always works if they are part of a chain. i-Sites will book activities & accommodation where there is commission in it for them. (ie they can issue vouchers).

Plan C is to DIY using free wifi.

It is relatively easy and cheap to get a working cell phone. I was out of town earlier this month, and bought a phone for $20.00 then put $20.00 credit on it.. See any telecom store for such deals.

isites are not there to offer free service phone call however they may let you make a local call. easier to have your own phone working.

I'm pretty sure the Nelson i-SITE charges you for any phone call required when making a booking for you.

You can't just bowl up and ask to use their phone.

Three options -

- a public phone booth - there are still some around

- have a phone as above

- or use free wifi. Found at the library, many cafes, many supermarkets, some town centres have hot spots, most B&B's and motels offer it free

At the i-site in Ohakune they once helped me call up our accommodation. I wouldn't rely on this, having a mobile phone is the best option and the 2 degrees sim cards are cheap, good to have just in case of emergency even if you won't be using a phone much.
