I know it won't be summer or peak holiday season, but us yanks don't get a generous holiday from our employers so we have to take what we get when we get it. Mine is 2 weeks in August. I will be traveling with my 15 year old daughter who has wanted to go to New Zealand ever since we was a wee one. This is her dream come true so I'm hoping I can still give her a good holiday in the winter.
We plan to spend a couple of days in Aukand and she has to visit a penpal in Cambridge briefly. Other than that, we have 7 days before we go to Sydney for the last 3 days. She is a horse nut so she would love to go riding on a beach. We're landlocked here in Kansas so it will be her first taste of an ocean. But will it be too cold for something like that?
We also love to go hiking and would love to see forests and waterfalls. One poster called Oskar?? mentioned some walks that go around lakes that sound very appealing to us. Is this something that is possible in August? We will have a rental car so if it is dangerous to drive places during the winter, we need to know.
I appreciate any information anyone can give us. If we're being unrealistic, please tell us. I want so much to take her during a different season, but with my job I just can't swing it.
