Diving Location for novice divers

Hi everyone,

My girlfriend and i are going to be spending 2 weeks in the North Island at the end of November, while we are here, we would like to spend a day diving. We are pretty inexperienced as we only passed our PADI open water last year, so our limit is 18m deep. Our question is which one of the following should we dive at?

1. Poor knights Islands

2. Bay of Islands

the wreck dives in the BOI are out for us due to the depth, so it would be Reef dives for us, however would we also be limited at Poor Knights as to what we are able to see?

cheers all

Mike and Louise

I certainly dont believe you will be limited by your present diving skills at the Poor Knights. The dive vessels will only take their customers to sheltered locations, and the company standards are fairly stringent - you'll be guided in the water according to your abilities, with additional watch remaining within the vessel. Besides, this diving area has high water clarity/visibility and the waters team wih fishlife. Poor Knights offers stupendous diving - something for every diver's level. The surrounding reserve scenery is amazing out there.

Definitely go for The Poor Knights - the dive companies will cater all levels of experience, and you will be able to see plenty even if you don't do particularly deep dives

Brilliant - thanks for all the tips guys.

We are planning on staying at Tutukaka so that will suit us down to the ground.

All the best
