10 days in NZ

Hi everyone

I want to spend about 10 days in NZ in early 2010, maybe split 50/50 between time in a city doing all the cultural stuff and time chilling out in a charming seaside resort. Definately want good weather!

Suggestions please! Looking at 4* accommodation.

Thanks.

Hi Linton, welcome to the forum :)

It's a long way to come to NZ to just hang out in a city and a seaside resort. That's something which you could do just about anywhere in the world.

While here I suggest you enjoy the best of NZ. Get out into the wilderness and enjoying a walk in a silent beech forest, the only sound the call of our native birds... hike on a glacier and slide through an ice tunnel... enjoy a stroll along a deserted beach and watch as penguins emerge from the sea to return to their homes... sit out at midnight and enjoy the milky way overhead.

And lets not forget going horse riding, bungee jumping, jet boating, Zorbing, hiking...

You can all this and so much more, all while staying in luxury B&B's, lodges and hotels.

So come and discover our uniqueness. Saviour our differences, and have a truly memorable holiday to remember forever :)

Hi Linton,

10 days in NZ will fly by - and there's so much scenery and many attractions - land and sea to keep you spellbound.

Presumably you plan to arrive Auckland. If so spend a couple of days exploring the main attractions - its the City of Sails, so there's a lot of focus on the Auckland harbour - then travel outside the city to enjoy a Kiwi encounter e.g.

1. Bay of Islands, numerous coastal & marine and land activities - along with several charming resorts/hideaways - 4star+ Kauri Cliffs, Carrington Resort, and Copthorne Waitangi and Hokianga.

2.Warkworth - Leigh - picturesque seaside hideaways in bush settings - Sandpiper Lodge.

3. Bay of Plenty - again glorious beaches, Lake Taupo, and many volcanic attractions - wide range resorts.

4. Coromandel - where you'll find your idyllic seaside spot.

5. Waitomo Caves followed by a relaxing holiday at Raglan or Kawhia harbours or even into Taranaki with its black sand beaches and wild surf.

6. Or fly directly to the South Island after visitng Auckland to follow some of those classic trails including WL suggests above - beech forests, abundant wildlife, bold alpine scenery, glacial lakes and streams, National Park hikes, kayaking tours.

It would help us if you could determine where/what attractions or region is most appealing so we can assist you with further planning - & accommodation.

Cheers

Hi

In ten days you are limited and I do think your ideas

are great.

I would suggest that you spend time in Auckland visiting all the City sights and then head to a charming seaside resort somewhere on Coromandel.

Make a base and then travel to all the many attractions this wonderful peninsular has to offer.

Or else head to the Bay of Islands and make a base there to see all the sights.

I am sure from your query that you do not want to spend ten days driving.

Hi LE,

I should have added Waiheke Island in Auckland region to the list of resort possibilities

Waiheke is the jewel in the Queen city's crown - its a island in the Hauraki Gulf, only 35 minutes cruise by ferry from the city - departs downtown Ferry Terminal.

Waiheke is all about lifestyle - beaches, native bush, boutique vineyards, arts, jazz and music festivals, good winery cafes, fine dining, fresh seafoods, relaxation.

Several island tours available - plus a good island bus service, numerous taxis, shuttles & hire vehicles. Car ferry from Half Moon Bay marina.

Have a look at the Waiheke Island Resort in Palm Beach -

www.waihekeresort.co.nz

Lots of accommodation styles in charming settings - to suit all budgets including luxury private home rentals

www.gotowaiheke.co.nz

Also early 2010 a Langham Place boutique hotel is planned to open in a vineyard setting.

Cheers
