Exploring Auckland until 12 noon.

Well after our whirl wind trip around the North Island in early May we will be spending our last night in Auckland and only have until approx noon to see any of Auckland before heading off to the airport for our flight home.

We will be staying at the Waldorf St Martins Apartments on St Martins Lane Grafton.

We will be happy to be up and out by say 8.30am in the morning, any suggestions for what we can do and see for the few hours we have? 3 1/2 hours.

Also is there anything we can do in the evening prior to this last day within close proximity to the apartment?

Thanks in advance,

Annette

You are up the very top end of the CBD where you are staying.

It is a reasonably long wal down into the CBD, but its all downhill on the way (but uphill on the way back) - you could easily get a bus or taxi back up though.

Having said that, your other option is a nice walk across Grafton Bridge and into the Domain and a visit to the museum. This is a lovely part of Auckland, nice & relaxing and the museum is excellent.

I would probably just stick with doing that, but depends on whether you are wanting to see anything specific in the CBD, like the Sky Tower, or the viaduct.

On the evening prior, there are several good places to eat - if you wanted a really special meal you could go to one of the restaurants in the Langham, which is just round the corner & opposite where you are, or there are eating places around the corner from the langham or on K Road. You can also very easily walk across to the top of Queen Street, where there are several good Asian restaurants, and you are also pretty close from there to Aotea Square, cinema complex, pubs, foodcourt etc etc

I have a similar schedule but staying at Rydges in the CBD. I was planning to use the hop on hop off bus to see the sights - is this recommended?

Hi

There are basically two hop on hop off options;

The Explorer Bus

www.explorerbus.co.nz

The Link Bus

www.linkbus.co.nz

The Explorer Bus is aimed at visitors to Auckland whereas the Link Bus is more of a normal bus service.

If you have a look at both sites you will be able to decide what suits you best.
