In AUCKLAND one afternoon and overnight....Sky City Grand or Quay West Suites? Which will give us the best location to walk around and get the feel of Auckland. What restaurant for the one night- for good food, maybe a view? Thanks!

Both these hotels are in the heart of the CBD, - Quay West is a bit nearer the waterfront, but Sky City is still fairly close and also has some excellent bars & restaurants on site and in the road adjacent....

Restaurant with a view - maybe 'Harbourside' in the ferry building

Why not do it all at Sky City? You'll get the best view possible if you dine up the Sky Tower! (there are 2 restaurants up there, and with cost of viewing "included" with dining, many people find it value-for-money).

I wouldn't recommend going to The Harbourside, the last few times we have been the food has been mediocre and the service appalling. It really has turned into a tourist trap.

There are several restaurants in the new Wynyard Quarter development or you could try The Foodstore in the Viaduct, these are all waterfront.
