where to stay

we will be arriving in auckland after midnight at the airport and will be in auckland about aday and a half before boarding a cruise should we just stay at the airport since we are coming in so late as the airport motels offer free shuttles and then either find motel in city near cruise port for next night or just stay at airport and shuttle into town until day of cruise please recommend motels too thanks

Without knowing your budget, it is a bit hard to offer advice. There is not much to do around the airport, but you can catch the airbus http://www.airbus.co.nz/

If you want a motel, try looking at motels in Epsom / Newmarket.

We arrive in Auckland at 6am and depart for Papete at 17:00 same day. We're looking for a day hotel, not where you have to check out by 10am and check in by 2 pm. Any ideas re hourly rates? Just want 6-7 hours sleep in a good bed - Otherwise a 2 day booking in Formule 1! Thanks

lovetrav, why would you stay at the airport if you are continuing your journey with a cruise? Plenty of cheap hotels in Auckland CBD . Check out sites such as www.wotif.com

Hi lovtravI,

think you would be best to transfer to city accommodation close to the cruise-ship terminal. At that hour of the night, the journey into the city will be straightforward and it means you don't need to repack next morn to transfer and resettle into accommodation for the subsequent night.

Hotel accommodation near to Princess wharf (cruise terminal) include Copthorne Harbourcity (directly opposite), Hilton (right alongside the terminal), Stamford Plaza, Mercure, Quay West and Grand Chancellor.

Hi Richard,

The Novotel is located right alongside the international terminal and offers a day-room rate. No need for a hotel transfer.

Thanks Frangi,

Good to get local knowledge - I'll look into booking for the day.

I still think a CBD hotel would be better as you can walk around a bit and see a littel of the city before you leave on your cruise. You also therefore dont need to worry about traffic delays etc.
