?To Stay in auckland Central or Airport?

We, family of 4, are flying out international at 6.30 am, on a THursday. We will have previously stayed in Auckland Central. Planning to return hire car on a wednesday arvo. Last arvo to relax before head back to work. Should we stay at accom. near airport or central? Has anyone an opinion on this?

Stay by the airport. You have to check in a couple of hours beforehand. The Novotel is the closest hotel - a 20 second walk to the terminal. Check in to your flights and then wander back to check out of the hotel.

Suggest you stay near the airport for an early morn departure. Besides the Novotel, right by the international terminal, another hotel at the airport is Formula 1, but its nearer the domestic terminal.

Just offsite are Bella Vista which has family suites, as well as the Sudima. A regular shuttle service takes guests from these 3 hotels to the terminals.

Where are you dropping your rental car off to? If it's in the CBD, it may be easier to stay put in the central city and take a taxi or shuttle to the airport. At 4am, the journey should take 30 minutes or less.

Our kids enjoyed Rangitoto. Take a torch and explore lava caves. Waiheke has great wineries but of less interest to the kids.

If it's a nice beach day, don't hesitate to take your children to Waiheke and enjoy Oneroa or Onetangi beach (buses from ferries to these beaches).

If it's not a nice summer day, then North Head reached by the regular passenger ferry to Devonport is another good option.
