Dinner suggestion for first night (Valentine's Day)

My husband and I will be traveling from Boston arriving in Auckland at 5:30 am on Valentine's Day. I'm not sure at this point if we will be exhausted at dinner time or have gotten a second wind.

Any suggestions for a medium priced, nice restaurant within walking distance of the Hilton? With it being Valentine's Day I thought we should make a reservation. Seafood restaurant would be the preference.

Thanks for any help.

There are heaps of restaurants in the vicinity of the Hilton, so finding one will not be a problem. The problem will be which one! Many may be having valentine's "specials", so what people do is walk around and view the menu before deciding. The list of restaurants here on Tripadvisor is an extensive one (and also broken in to cuisine and price), so that would be a great place to start.

Folk who dine out regularly may be able to recommend... but consistency is something which would be the main issue regarding any recommendations as some of there restaurants change owners frequently!

As you're staying in the Hilton why don't you book into the Valentine's Day dinner at Fish restaurant in the Hilton. The restaurant setting is relaxing and beautiful and the food was good the last time I ate there.

Your jetlag will probably be getting to you by then.

You would need to book. If you decide to do so ask them for a window seat to take advantage of the glorious harbour views.

Anorther place to consider is the Waterfront Cafe, located to the right of the entrance to the Viaduct. It has a harbour vista-view towards the Shore, with Princes wharf to the right and the Maritime Museum to its left. Prices are in line with moderate charges for a meal out in the downtown area. Servings are generous and consistently good, with fresh fish of the day, seafood chowder, calamari, and prawns on its menu.

There are tables on the lower deck closest to the water's edge, as well as tables on the main balcony area of the restaurant. Both areas have good views of the water. Tables nearer the harbour occupy the best spots.

Suggest for your first day that you take fresh air and work on local time to help your body-clock adjust more readily. A short stroll of the Viaduct area before dinner seems a very pleasant way to enjoy Valentine's Day.

For seafood within walking distance to your hotel I recommend:

There are private dining rooms, a fine dining restaurant or a bistro part to it. Even a cocktail bar.

Yummy yummy with views across the water.

Or Soul Bar is great for people watching and the food is great.

Restaurants that are close by - easy taxi....

If you want something casual, good value seafood go to Swashbucklers.

Just seafood without all the fancy trimmings.

Fancy - fine dining....not far from Swashbucklers, go here early evening to watch the sunset.

Sails Restaurant - fantastic!
