Will we see glo worms on our Rainbow Springs night walk?

How likley is it that we will see glow worms on our walk at Rainbow Springs in early March?

We want to go to the Waitomo caves but may need to choose between them and a thermal park visit due to limited time,

So far we plan to visit Hobbiton, Whakareware Thermal village, Kirau Park, Ohinemuta, Mitai with a Rainbow springs walk. Possibly Gondola and museum (if it rains).

We have a very busy SI trip planned after Rotorua (our first stop- 2 1/2 days) a visit to the caves in SI likley won't work

Hi, you'll see glowworms on the Mitai/Rainbow Springs combo walk for sure, but they are tucked into the bush and around the banks of the streams - so quite a different experience from the Waitomo Caves, where there are literally thousands of them right above your head.

The Mitai/Rainbow combo is a great product, with a really yummy hangi meal and you'll also see kiwi up close in the open at Rainbow Springs.

You will see glowworms but how many will depend on how quiet your group is and whether individuals use the distributed torches to 'see the glowworms' even after they have been instructed to turn torches off. As Aussiemiche said, it is quite a different experience to the Waitomo Caves where you will see millions of tiny lights overhead and around you while going through the cave.

It depends really on whether you want to see how a glowworm lights up or whether you want to travel approx four hours for more of an experience.
