Wai-o-tapu Thermal Wonderland and /or Waimangu Volcanic Vall

Hi,

Does is make sense to visit both these places? Or visiting one is fine? Which one do you suggest? Are both these places very different from each other or more or less same?

If you have time you would enjoy both.

Waiotapu has the Lady Knox Geyser that plays everyday at 10.15a.m.thanks to a little additive. The colours here are quite amazing.

Waimungu involves an easy walk of 3.5km to where you are able to take a boat ride on Lake Rotomahana which covers the Pink & White Terraces drowned in the Tarawera Eruption of 1886.

Another option is to take the Riverjet on the Waikato River to view Orakei Korako.

Closer to town is Te Puia with Pohutu and smaller geysers.

Kuirau Park has boiling water and mud pools. It is in central Rotorua and is free.

Without knowing anything about you, fitness level, whether you want boat trips or not and your budget, your question is not easy to answer. Perhaps if you google the individual places you will make your own decision judged on what you know about yourselves.

We visited Wai-o-Tapu recently and really enjoyed it there. Here is our review (w/pictures) if useful.

We visited Wai-o-tapu last month and it was a great experience. Reach and get tickets at 10 am , watch the geyser at 10.15 am and then enter Wai-o-tapu. You should be out in around 2 hrs.
