Public transportation-Auckland to rotorua

Wondering the easiest economical way to visit rotorua from Aucklad. We will have accommodations in Auckland; is it reasonable to travel back and forth several times? Or plan to stay overnight in Rotorua.

Thank you

C

Rotorua is a 3 hour drive from Auckland, so it's best to overnight at least.

Intercity coaches are very affordable services. Otherwise rental cars or a domestic flight are alternative options. Air New Zealand Grabaseat deals may have something around your dates - http://grabaseat.co.nz/

Naked bus travels between Auckland and Rotorua www.nakedbus.co.nz but it would not be practical to travel between the two cities or you will be spending a lot of valuable time sitting on a bus rather than seeing and doing.

You should plan to spend at least one night in Rotorua but you will still miss out seeing many of the sights and activities visitors keep on returning. www.rotoruaNz.com will give you an idea of the range of activities.

There are even such places as Kuirau Park with thermal lakes & mudpools and the Redwood Forest that are free to visit.
