Rotorua Hotel

I'm totally confused about where stuff is in Rotorua. We will have a rental car, but would also like to stay in a nice place close to town. don't really want to deal with the large tour busses. Not afraid of price. Please advise

With a car and no price limit the world's your oyster! Be brave and move out of town a bit- at the most it's only a 15-20 minutes drive back in. DON"T stay right in town at your "standard" tourist chain hotels, this is where all the buses do end up.

The first 2 places are actually only 5-10 minutes from the town centre and are located on the main road in from the south- motels and hotels line both sides of Fenton Street. Regal Palms is a very rare 5* motorlodge and has won numerous awards. Tuscan Villas has only recently opened (approx 2mths ago)

Treetops- well what can I say, this is the creme-de-la-creme, 20 minutes from town. 199 is on the shores of Lake Tarawera, a beautiful part of Rotorua and only 15 minutes from town. There are lots of great walks in the area around the lake or the Blue & Green Lakes, the buried village, trout fishing charters available, charter a boat across to the natural hot water beach where you can soak in the rock pools. The majestic & barren Mt Tarawera dominates the lake, tours are available up to the crater chasm formed when the Mountain blew it's stack 150 odd years ago. The Redwood forest and it's many walks and horse riding treks are just at the beginning of the road to the lake.
