Ferry crossings

Are Interislander & bluebridge the only 2 ferry companys that take cars across from North to South Islands?

Also does anybody know how far in advance Bluebridge publish their rates? I am looking for Feb next year but it wont give me the prices at the moment - Do Bluebridge run all year?

Thanks

Both ferries do online bookings so I would use this avenue to check out your query. When making your bookings check out the specials that maybe available.

I rang Bluebridge and they advise that Feb 2011 schedule should be out by end of June

I dont expect much change from current schedule and pricing.

February will be off the peak and into the shoulder season. It will be busy, but manageable. Choose your ferry on price and convienience, everything else is quite similar.

Thannk you for your information. I was wondering the difference in Interislander ferry and Bluebridge. There is so much more about the interislander ferrys, but Bluebridge has a better price and the schedule works better to connect with the train to Christchurch.

We turned up at Picton the day before we wanted to cross the Cook Straits, checked the fares for a car and two passengers and Bluebridge at NZ$215 was the cheaper by NZ$30 so we booked it there and then. Unless it happens to be the middle of the school holidays, then I would suspect that there is good availability on nearly every crossing. If you are foot passengers then there should be no problem. There is probably no need to book so far in advance and so limit your choice of movement by your ferry booking.

thanks but we are booking right in the middle of the school holidays & peak season and we want a definate crossing date so it will be just down to cost and crossing times. I checked at the weekend and bluebridge didnt have their 2011 crossings on the system still.

Not sure whether anyone has mentined it but interislander has a split payment offer at the moment so you can spread the cost monthly if you want.rather than paying in one lum sum.

I would always book for the school holiday period.
